A Brief History

It seems to us that there has been a need for our concept for a long time. As long time wine geeks we couldn't help but notice certain trends. Wine was becoming mainstream. But the distribution of wines still relied on a business model which supported an inefficient, protectionist system introduced post prohibition.  Friends who enjoy good wine would often have to make extra efforts in order to offer decent wines at their private or corporate events. Those who are passionate and knowledgeable would travel to their favorite store to hand select their wines. Others would call and ask for suggestions, or better yet; "Could you pick up a few cases for us to drink while you’re getting your own wine?" was a reoccurring request over the years. It appeared that the concept of a service recommending and obtaining wine selections to compliment the food at special events was viable. That's pretty much what started the whole business back in 2002. Other services were added mostly as a direct response to the demands of our clients. Consider a typical scenario: A professional, already short on time, is too busy running her own company and wants to host an event where the wines will be as good as the food prepared by her favorite caterer. Enter Winepairings: Offering a complete streamlined wine service package at a competitive price. We find unique selections; in a market already offering thousands of products.

Providing wines that represent good value. Ultimately, utilizing wine as a fun element in making any event a memorable success was the goal for Paul David, a Colorado businessman, while piecing together the concepts that eventually evolved into WINEPAIRINGS. Paul, who has caught a serious, self-professed wine bug early in his life recalls: “My first exposure to wine came from home; My Parents were European, and loved to entertain. Special meals were always accompanied by nice wines.” Wine appreciation is credited to his Father who told him “The best way to learn about wine is to taste it for your-self”. A Finance graduate from Concordia University in Montreal, Paul started collecting wines in the late 70’s. The wine interest continued throughout a career in the financial field, and, later ownership of several  small businesses. In 1986 Paul met his future wife Susan. While pursuing her own career in the Medical field, Susan also honed her skills in the kitchen. As Susan's cooking skills reached new heights, Paul found himself challenged to come up with the perfect wine matches to compliment an increasingly varied selections of exotic & international foods. “We are fortunate to have met wonderful people who share our passions” say the couple that travel extensively to wine growing regions in the US and abroad in search of local wines and cuisine. “Sharing wine & food with good friends are some of our most enjoyable times”. “We were privileged to befriended individuals in various segments of the wine and food industry”, Says Paul. "Some of these individuals have been involved in the wine business for many years and were extremely knowledgeable and generous. There where excellent networks already in place, Winemakers and Winery owners,  Importers of wines some made by small wine growers, retailers and Wholesale reps. WINEPAIRINGS was the logical progression". The result: A company with contacts in all those areas, dedicated to making suitable wine selections for your functions easy and affordable. All along maintaining the emphasis on the synergy created when matching the right wine to the food being served.

How We Do it

At WINEPAIRINGS we believe that wine knowledge does not have to come with attitude. Similarly, good wine does not have to be outrageously priced. We use our experience and know how to eliminate the guesswork and facilitate your selection. WINEPAIRINGS has business affiliates on all levels of the Wine Distribution Business.  Therefore, the selections we offer are limitless. As well we can supply wine to various venues where you may not be able to provide your own wines. If there is something special you would like, be it a rare vintage from a world class producer or just a wine you really covet, please let us know - we will get it. For most occasions, we rely on our own discoveries which feature exceptional quality in any given price point; many are from small wine makers, representing some of the top growing regions in the world, who place emphasis on winemaking rather then marketing. Some of these wines are imported directly, and are not available in the local retail market place.  This allows you an option of having quality selections for your event, which are not common place, often at excellent prices.

We will recommend wines according to your needs and budget.  At the time your wine selection is made we will procure it on your behalf from our local or out of state Affiliates. Your wine will than be set aside at the warehouse, were you may arrange for pick up or have our delivery service bring it to you.
